The Costa Rica is a democratic presidential Republic. The responsibilities of Government are delegated to the President, representing the central power. There are also two Deputy Presidents and five Cabinet members, including one of two vice Presidents.
The political system in Costa Rica is represented by three powers: the Executive, Legislative and the Judiciary. The Supreme Court is considered the fourth power of the Republic. National elections are every four years. Among the other appointments of popular representation, the President of the Republic is elected through a direct representation by secret ballot.
The Republic of Costa Rica (República de Costa Rica) borders both the Atlantic ocean (to the east) and the Pacific ocean (to the west), with a total of 1,290 km of coastline (212 km on the Caribbean coast and 1,016 km on the Pacific).
Costa Rica shares a border with Nicaragua to the north (313 km long border) and with Panama to the south (348 km long border). The area of Costa Rica is 51,100 km² of which 51,060 km² is land and 40 km² is water
The boundaries are marked largely by natural elements: to the North the border leans over a long distance to the Río San Juan and then follows the shore of Nicaragua Lake; the Panama border follows a conventional path. Internationally, the country is part of the OAS and the United Nations.
Costa Rica is famous all over the world to keep the 27% of its territory with amazing parks and nature reserves, which make each trip an amazing experience. Thanks to the stable political climate and in absolute safety from 1889 year of proclamation of the democracy, the young population of Costa Rica is particularly friendly, educated and at the same time simple and cheerful.
On top as the one world ranking on quality of life, the Costa Rica abolished the army for over sixty years and has proclaimed its permanent neutrality. Without social tensions, a population always friendly and welcoming, a pleasant climate all year round.
Costa Rica is attentive to the environment and ecological balance. The population (just over four million five hundred thousand inhabitants) are friendly, courteous and very respectful of social relations. They speak Spanish and every Government, democratic or Liberal, which happens every four years, promotes first formal education, the illiteracy rate is limited to 3% of the population.
